What's a Entrepreneur?

Can you really make money online?

The Web is full of business opportunities and ways to make money with your web site! Whether you want to make a little extra pocket change, or "KISS YOUR BOSS GOOD-BYE" (or in some cases, DOUBLE-S-O-B backwards) - you can find a way on the Internet. You can use many of these business opportunities online and offline.
You can take your favorite hobby or topic of conversation and make a web site for it, join a few related affiliate programs, and make good money having fun. You can also make decent money running some online auctions, while at the same time cleaning out your attic, garage or basement of things you no longer want or need. As the old saying goes, one man's junk is another man's treasure.
If your mind works on things like the suggestions above, chances are you have an entrepreneurial spirit, and you might be the next Jeff Bezos. For some things, you do not even need a domain name or paid web hosting. You don't even have to know that much about web design to get started. Many free web hosts have what they call site builders, which are online WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors. There are also freeware and shareware versions of editors, and many free tutorials online on the topic of web design as well as other programming.
I believe there is a learning curve on the WWW and that a week of studying on here is equivalent to a month's learning, or more, by other means. Whether you are researching gardening or web marketing, web site design or politics; the WWW has web sites and information for almost any topic you could imagine.

How to get started?

First of all, think about what you enjoy doing. Are you a Soap Opera fan / TV watcher, or a sports / news fanatic? You would really enjoy making a web site on something you already do and enjoy doing. Do you already have a hobby - like arts and crafts, writing poetry, or making pretty graphics on your computer? If so you might want to sell your arts and crafts from a web site or in online auction, post your poems on your own web site, or make a web site that features your graphics works.
Depending on what your abilities, likes and dislikes are, you'll want to make a list of goals you want to accomplish with your project. Figure out how much money you want to make and then write make a business plan that reflects your goals. You'll also want to figure out how much time and money you have to start your business or website.
Next, you'll want to learn all you can about the internet and look around to see if other people are already doing what you have planned. This phase is the research part of things and is very important. Chances are in your researching you will meet other webmasters and entrepreneurs. You will be building a network as well as a knowledge base, as your research goes on. Most Netizens and Entrepreneurs are very friendly people, and most like to share what they have learned, as well as point others to online resources.

Other Things to Consider

What if I have never had my own business?

The Internet allows folks to learn as well as start businesses for less than building a brick and mortar business, in my personal opinion. There are plenty of web sites that provide free or low cost information for starting a business, whether home-based, web based and even offline.
You may not even want to start your own business, you may want to find freelance jobs instead. Or if you are not overly concerned with making a lot of money - you might want to volunteer in an online community, where you'll meet other people who can teach you what you need to know.

What if I am new to the Web?

If you need computer or internet training, there are dozens of resources online. One of the first things you need to learn to use is Search Engines. They will help you be able to find the resources you need. Other resources are ezines, newsletters, and email groups or newsgroups. Chatrooms can also provide you access to people who have information you are looking for.

I'll soon be adding some resources where I found answers I needed, when I first opened my website. If you need anything until then, feel free to email me or page me in ICQ. Be sure to check out the Business Opportunities section of the Womens' Room.
